It’s important that you read this before using your charger

This charger is intended to be used with lead based batteries and you should make sure that you are using a model that is capable of charging the size battery.

Your battery will be charged at different rates throughout the charging time which are boost, equalisation and float stages. Throughout these stages the voltage and current output of the charger will vary depending on the state of the battery and the stage of charging.

Boost mode charges your battery to about 80% in less than a few hours if correctly suited*. Absorption mode charges at a decreasing rate until it reaches 100% and then switches to float mode with little current which keeps the battery maintained at 100%.

*Don’t use to small a charger. Check what size charger your battery recommends.

Safety Precautions

  • During the charging process do not use a naked flame near the battery. This is due to gasses which may be emitted from the battery and could ignite or explode.
  • Never smoke or use a lighter near a battery.
  • Don’t place tools or any other metal object on or around a battery where it might fall onto it.
  • You should wear eye protection near a charging battery.
  • Make sure that you are charging your battery in a well ventilated area.
  • Make sure you don’t obstruct the holes around the casing of the charger. It needs to be well ventilated otherwise it may overheat and not work properly.
  • This battery charger is designed for internal use only. Operate it in areas that are not exposed to different weather conditions e.g. rain or in a damp area.
  • If at any point you come into contact with acid from the battery, you should flush the area very well with water immediately and seek medical attention if necessary.
  • This product does not have any user serviceable parts. Please return it to your place of purchase
How to connect my charger
Important – 12V Chargers for 12V batteries and 24V chargers for 24V battery systems
  • Make sure the switch on the unit is in the OFF position (no switch on CH12-2.7).
  • Make sure the AC outlet is switched OFF and plug the 3 pin mains lead in to the approved socket.
  • Position the battery charger away from the battery as far as the leads permit.
  • Connect the black DC battery clip to the negative (-) of the battery.
  • Connect the red DC battery clip to the positive (+) of the battery.
  • Do not face the Battery and switch ON the AC outlet and then the switch on the charger.
  • At this point the red Power LED and red LED on the battery status will be on and the charger is in the boost stage.
  • When the yellow LED comes on, it has started its absorption mode.

(Don’t be concerned if the charger very quickly goes to this stage after switch on. It just means that the battery was not too discharged and is already at the point of the absorption stage).

  • When the green LED comes on, it has reached the float mode and is fully charged.
  • When you have finished using your battery charger, switch off the unit at the rear and switch off the AC outlet then disconnect the charge leads from the battery ready for your next use.
